Fresh Threats Issued By Boko Haram

Three officers of the Nigeria Police were yesterday injured following an attack by suspected members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect on Rijar Zaki Police Station, on Bayero University Road in the state capital. Eyewitnesses said the suspects suddenly emerged from the vicinity of the police station, at noon and opened fire on the station, adding that soon after, the officers on duty responded with equal force.

It was gathered that both the sect members and the police officers on duty were holed in an exchange of gunfire for several minutes, shooting at each other from a close range, after which the sect members retreated and fled in different directions. Member of the Joint Security Task Force in the state as well as a police helicopter were immediately mobilizedtowards the troubled area, but had little to do, as the sect members had fled by the time of their arrival.
The gun duel, the first of its kind in that particular area, triggered offhuge apprehension and confusion among residents of the area, as many residents ran for cover, while those at home stayed indoor. At the time of filing the report, the entire area was cordoned off by security personnel, while the police have commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack on the station.
Saturday Sun was told that the three injured officers have been rushed for medical attention in one of the hospitals in the state capital.
